Congratulations to Adipo Therapeutics on winning first place and a $10,000 cash prize at the 14th annual Innovation Showcase in Indianapolis. Adipo Therapeutics was founded to realize the potential of a proprietary, therapeutic approach to treat people with type 2 diabetes and obesity.

The company was founded by Meng Deng, an associate professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. Deng also has a courtesy appointment in the School of Materials Engineering.

Karen Wurster is the CEO at Adipo Therapeutics.

“I am excited for Adipo Therapeutics to be recognized by the Venture Club of Indiana as the winner of the Innovation Showcase pitch competition,” Wurster said. “This award helps bring awareness to the need for a new treatment that can transform energy-storing white fat to energy-burning brown fat to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. I appreciate the support Adipo Therapeutics has received from Purdue Foundry to continue our important work.”

ZeroCarb LYFE, a company founded by Purdue University alumni, won third place and a $4,000 cash prize. ZeroCarb LYFE created a revolutionized pizza crust using only chicken, olive oil, salt, spices and its special process.

Five other companies that competed in the showcase have connections to Purdue University and/or Purdue Foundry. They are:

AkiCept

Geniphys — GeniPhys is developing and commercializing its patented Collymer™ technology, a first-of-a-kind polymerizable (scaffold-forming) collagen that supports custom design and fabrication of collagen materials for accelerated and improved tissue restoration and regeneration.

NanoBio Designs — NanoBio Designs provides a highly efficient detection platform to verify the presence or absence and levels of targeted genetic markers in samples.

Novilytic — Monitoring the quality of lifesaving medicines is Novilytic’s mission. The company accomplishes this via the disruptive use of nanotechnology and cutting-edge science designed for process R&D and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Senteon — Senteon is a turnkey cybersecurity platform designed to empower those forgotten by large security corporations.

The companies made their case to the judges and audience in four sessions throughout the day. Each startup CEO had three minutes for their pitch. All pitch competitors met and talked with investors throughout the day.

Congratulations to all that participated in the event!
